I built MoveAbroadToolkit because the information Americans need to relocate abroad was scattered, outdated, or written for everyone — which means it served no one well. So I fixed that.
Find Your Country Match →Kimberly, founder of MoveAbroadToolkit, at the Palace of Versailles in France during her extended stay abroad
I'm Kimberly — and I've spent years doing what most people only dream about. I lived in Paris for three months, navigating the Schengen visa rules and learning what it actually takes to stay longer than a tourist. I held a long-stay visa in South Africa after multiple extended stays across Johannesburg and Cape Town. I've researched digital nomad visas in Portugal, Spain, Thailand, and beyond — not from a desk, but from the countries themselves.
And here's the part nobody talks about: I funded a lot of it by doing something most people don't think to do: I liquidated my American life. "Liquidate your American life to fund your international one." I sold my house at the peak of the COVID housing market bubble. I sold my belongings on Facebook Marketplace — furniture, clothes, everything that wouldn't fit in a suitcase. I also sold my car, which was only 3 years old. Downsizing wasn't just practical, it was freeing. And it generated real money that made the move possible.
I didn't have a remote job lined up. I had a plan, a financial runway, and a clear-eyed look at exactly how far my money would go in each country I was considering. That's what made the difference.
And every single time I was planning a move, I ran into the same problem: the information I needed was scattered across a hundred different websites, buried in outdated blog posts, or written for a generic "traveler" that wasn't me. There was no single place built for Americans who wanted to actually make the move — with real visa requirements, real cost of living data, and real tools to plan it.
So I built it.
Every tool, guide, and resource on MoveAbroadToolkit is built around one framework — the M.O.V.E. Method™. It's the step-by-step system I used to relocate internationally, and it's what keeps this site focused on action instead of endless research.
Everything organized around your actual relocation journey — not random blog posts.
